Overview

A secluded eight-day escape to a private-island resort, reachable only by boat or light aircraft.

A secluded eight-day escape to a private-island resort, reachable only by boat or light aircraft.

Some places are marketed as secluded. This one actually is. Reachable only by light aircraft or private boat, the private island at the heart of this eight-day Seychelles escape strips away every remaining layer between you and the Indian Ocean — no day-trippers, no queue for a sunset table, no sound beyond wind through casuarina trees and waves breaking on granite. A single settling-in night on Mahé, with time for the Victoria market and a swim at Beau Vallon, is all that stands between you and six full nights on an island run as much as a conservation project as a resort. For honeymooners and couples marking a real occasion, it's difficult to overstate how different total privacy at this level feels compared with even the finest mainland beach hotel.

What sets the Seychelles apart geologically is worth knowing before you go: these are the world's oldest oceanic granite islands, their boulders formed when Gondwana broke apart roughly seventy-five million years ago, giving the coastline a sculpted, otherworldly look you won't find on Zanzibar's coral-rag beaches or the Maldives' atolls. Many private islands here run active rewilding programs — Aldabra giant tortoise reintroductions, hawksbill turtle nesting protection, native bird recovery — meaning your stay directly supports measurable conservation outcomes. Villa inventory at this level is genuinely limited, often fewer than a dozen units per island, and honeymoon-season dates (April-May and October-November, avoiding the stronger southeast trades) sell out six to nine months out.

This itinerary can be shortened, extended, or combined with any other route in our library — including a Zanzibar or Seychelles finale on our multi-country templates, or paired directly with our signature Kenya Migration & Zanzibar Escape for an even more customized journey.

Your 8-day journey, day by day

Day 1

Arrive Mahé

Your flight touches down at Seychelles International Airport on Mahé, the archipelago's largest and most populated island, where a private transfer carries you to your hillside hotel above the coast. With the afternoon free, most guests head into Victoria — routinely cited as the smallest capital city in the world — to browse the covered market's stalls of fresh tuna, breadfruit and cinnamon-dusted local produce, and to see the small clock tower modeled on London's Vauxhall clock at the town's central roundabout. Later, Beau Vallon's long, golden beach on the island's northwest coast offers your first swim of the trip, calm and gently shelving, before an early dinner and rest ahead of tomorrow's onward journey to genuine seclusion.

Day 2

Transfer to Your Private Island

A short light-aircraft flight or scenic boat transfer — arranged entirely on your behalf — carries you from Mahé out to your private island, the moment the trip's real character begins to show. Stepping onto the jetty, you're met with a welcome drink and a walk to your villa through gardens planted with native takamaka and coconut palms, granite boulders rising unexpectedly between the trees. The afternoon is left deliberately unscheduled for your first swim off the villa's own stretch of sand and an orientation snorkel across the house reef, where a resident marine guide can point out anything unusual moving through the shallows. Dinner that first evening is typically set on the beach itself, torches lit, the sound of the tide the only real backdrop.

Day 3

House Reef & Marine Life

A full day centers on the island's house reef, among the best-protected fringing reef systems in the Seychelles thanks to the island's private-reserve status and total absence of day-visitor traffic. A guided snorkel with the resident marine team introduces the reef's structure — granite boulder gardens giving way to coral heads — and its resident life, from turquoise parrotfish grazing algae off the rock to the occasional reef shark patrolling the drop-off. Between snorkels, a short talk from the island's conservation staff explains ongoing coral monitoring and how guest activity is deliberately kept light to protect the ecosystem. The afternoon is left open for a second swim, a paddle out at slack tide, or simply time on your villa's private deck watching the light change over the water.

Day 4

Island Nature & Conservation Immersion

Today shifts focus from the water to the island itself, with a guided walk led by the resident conservation team through the interior's restored native forest. Many of these islands run active Aldabra giant tortoise breeding or reintroduction programs, and a close encounter with these slow-moving, remarkably long-lived giants — some individuals verified well over a century old — is a genuine highlight for guests of any age. The walk continues past nesting sites used by hawksbill and green turtles during the October-to-February season, with the guide explaining how beach lighting and guest movement are managed to protect hatchlings. A quiet afternoon back at your villa, or an optional couples spa treatment in a garden pavilion, rounds out the day.

Day 5

Free Day: Beach & Water Sports

A fully open day built around whichever pace suits you best. Options include paddleboarding out across the lagoon at high tide, a sunset sail along the island's sheltered coast, or simply an unstructured stretch of hours between your villa's plunge pool and the beach immediately in front of it. For anyone wanting a change of scene, a deep-sea fishing charter can be arranged, targeting the deeper water beyond the reef drop-off for dorado, wahoo and sailfish. Meals throughout the day are served wherever and whenever you prefer — breakfast on your deck, a light lunch on the beach — with the island's kitchen team accommodating requests with essentially no fixed schedule to work around.

Day 6

Optional Outer Island Excursion or Dive

Today offers a genuine change of underwater scenery with an optional boat excursion to nearby granite outcrops or a guided dive at a site known for dramatic underwater boulder formations rather than coral alone — a distinctly Seychellois seascape, sunlight filtering between house-sized rocks colonized by soft coral and reef fish. Non-divers can join the same boat for surface snorkeling or simply for the ride, watching for pods of spinner dolphins that frequent these deeper channels between islands. Back on the island by early afternoon, the remainder of the day returns to its usual unhurried rhythm, with time to revisit any stretch of reef or beach that made a particular impression earlier in the stay.

Day 7

Final Day: Sunset & Private Beach Dinner

Your last full day is left intentionally light — a final morning swim, a slow breakfast, perhaps one more visit to the house reef before it's time to think about packing. As evening approaches, a private table is set directly on the sand, away from the main dining area, for a final dinner built around the day's fresh catch and a genuinely uninterrupted view of the sun setting into the Indian Ocean. It's a deliberately quiet close to the trip, with staff who by now know your names and preferences well enough to anticipate most of what you'd want without asking.

Day 8

Departure

A final relaxed morning on the island precedes your light-aircraft or boat transfer back to Mahé, timed to connect with your onward international flight. Our local team monitors every leg of this return journey to ensure a smooth handover between transfers, and we're always glad to hear how the island stay unfolded once you're home — a meaningful share of our Seychelles bookings each year come from guests returning to a different private island for their next milestone trip.
