detailed Itinerary
Your journey begins in Nairobi, Kenya’s lively capital, where city energy meets the edge of the wild. Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, a private transfer brings you to your hotel—perhaps the iconic Giraffe Manor, where Rothschild giraffes greet you at breakfast, or the classic Fairmont Norfolk, rich with colonial-era charm. If time allows, visit the Giraffe Centre to hand-feed these towering creatures, followed by a stop at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to see baby elephants rescued from the wild. Later, explore the Karen Blixen Museum, home of the famed “Out of Africa” author, nestled in the leafy suburb of Karen. End your day with dinner at a local restaurant like Talisman or Carnivore, and rest well in anticipation of the wild wonders ahead.
This morning, you leave the city behind and journey westward toward the legendary Masai Mara. Whether by scenic road or swift flight, you’ll arrive in time to check into your lodge or luxury tented camp—perhaps Ashnil Mara, Mara Explorer, or a riverside retreat tucked into nature. In the afternoon, your first game drive begins, rolling across golden plains in search of Africa’s most iconic wildlife. Lions prowl beneath acacia trees, elephants wander in family herds, and herds of wildebeest ripple across the grasslands. As the sun dips low, casting the sky in fire and rose, you’ll return to camp for dinner and your first night under the African stars.
Rise before the sun for a magical hot air balloon ride, if you choose—a soaring view of the Mara as the savannah slowly wakes beneath you. After a champagne breakfast in the bush, you’ll spend the rest of the day immersed in game drives. This is the land of the Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhinoceros, each offering a moment of awe. The Masai Mara is also home to cheetahs, hippos, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife. In the afternoon, visit a traditional Maasai village. Here, you’ll learn about the customs and way of life of these proud, semi-nomadic warriors—listen to their songs, walk through their manyattas, and perhaps share in their stories. Return to camp for a fireside meal, with the distant roar of lions echoing through the night.
Today you leave the Mara and make your way through the dramatic Rift Valley escarpments toward Lake Nakuru National Park. Known for its shimmering alkaline waters and pink flocks of flamingos, Nakuru is a quieter but equally enchanting reserve. Upon arrival, check into your lodge—such as Sarova Lion Hill or a hilltop camp offering views over the lake. In the afternoon, enjoy a game drive around the lake’s edge. Here, you might spot endangered white rhinos, Rothschild giraffes, and elusive leopards hidden in the yellow fever trees. As dusk falls, flamingos wade in mirror-like water, and the lake shimmers in the twilight.
After breakfast, set off for Amboseli National Park, located in southern Kenya near the Tanzanian border. The journey takes about 6–7 hours, but the reward is immense—iconic views of Mt. Kilimanjaro towering behind vast elephant herds. Check in to your accommodation, such as Ol Tukai Lodge or Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge, both offering prime views of the snow-capped peak.
In the late afternoon, embark on a game drive through Amboseli’s dusty plains and marshlands, where elephants rule the land. You'll also see buffaloes, lions, cheetahs, and a variety of birdlife. Capture unforgettable photos of elephants silhouetted against Africa’s highest mountain. End your day with dinner under the stars, reflecting on the majestic scenery and powerful wildlife encounters.
This morning, you drive or take a flight south to Amboseli National Park, where towering elephants roam freely beneath the towering presence of Mount Kilimanjaro. The snow-capped peak rises like a silent sentinel behind the dusty plains, offering one of Africa’s most iconic safari backdrops. Upon arrival, check into your lodge—perhaps Ol Tukai Lodge, Amboseli Serena, or a more secluded eco-camp. In the afternoon, your first Amboseli game drive reveals vast herds of elephants, graceful giraffes, and the sharp silhouettes of acacia trees. Return to camp as the mountain glows pink with the setting sun.
Begin the day with a sunrise game drive, when the animals are most active and the mountain air is still cool. Track elephants as they move slowly across the open plains, their massive forms both ancient and gentle. After breakfast, take time to enjoy the park's quieter corners or visit a nearby Maasai village for a more intimate cultural exchange. Here, you can see how traditional ways of life continue amidst the encroachment of modernity. In the late afternoon, another game drive brings you close to buffalo, lions, hyenas, and countless birds. Back at camp, the silhouette of Kilimanjaro stands guard as you drift into sleep.
Today, your journey continues east into the rugged landscape of Tsavo West National Park. Known for its volcanic terrain, Mzima Springs, and ancient lava flows, Tsavo offers a more remote and mystical safari experience. Check in at Kilaguni Serena Lodge or Finch Hattons, a luxurious oasis set amidst wilderness. Visit the crystalline Mzima Springs, where hippos and crocodiles glide beneath palm-shaded pools. Explore Shetani Lava Flow, a jagged black plain born of fire. The red dust settles on your boots as evening falls, and elephants gather at waterholes while leopards emerge from the shadows.
Cross over to Tsavo East, the land of red elephants and unbroken horizons. Here, the earth glows a deep rust color, and the wild feels wilder still. The day is spent on a full safari through Kenya’s largest park—home to lions known for their strength and secrecy, as well as vast herds of antelope and buffalo. Watering holes like Aruba Dam draw thirsty animals in the heat of the day, offering incredible sightings. Stay at Ashnil Aruba or a remote tented camp, where the night air is filled with insect songs and the occasional roar in the distance.
Trade the dust of the savannah for the soft, white sands of Diani Beach. A short flight takes you from the wilderness to the coast, where the Indian Ocean laps gently at the shore. Arrive at a coastal resort like The Sands at Nomad, Swahili Beach, or Almanara Villas. The rest of the day is yours to swim, sunbathe, or simply sway in a hammock under palm trees. The pace of life slows, and the breeze carries only salt and silence.
Today, you explore the rich marine world just off the coast. Take a dhow boat to Kisite-Mpunguti Marine Park, where coral reefs shimmer with tropical fish and dolphins often play in the surf. Snorkel or dive in crystal-clear waters, or simply lie on the boat’s deck watching the waves roll by. Return to shore for fresh seafood and a quiet afternoon by the pool or the ocean. Let the ocean rinse the dust from your soul as you savor your last full day in Kenya.
After breakfast, take your final walk along the beach. Your flight will return you to Nairobi, either directly from Ukunda or via Mombasa. At Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you’ll board your international flight—reluctantly leaving behind the golden grasses, red earth, and turquoise seas of Kenya. But you take something with you: a rhythm, a memory, and the sound of wildness that will echo inside you forever.
